Update: New Home! Also: Bewbs! October 30, 2008

Why the arguably unnecessary bewbage, you ask? Well, let me explain. Not only does said bewbage commemorate the moving of You Have Lost! to its new homes of http://shoinan.com/ and http://youhavelost.co.uk/* but it also celebrates my first review for my friends over at TheGameReviews. That review is on Golden Axe: Beast Rider and I think you should check it out, and not just for the bewbs although that’s understandably an important factor.
Update ends here – sho out.
*http://shoinan.wordpress.com still works for those who can’t bring themselves to move on.

Reading Between The Charts October 28, 2008

In case my aimless ramblings, false claims and lexicon abuse have somehow failed to remind you, I’m still kinda new to the video game industry. Sure, I’ve been playing games ever since my dad sat me in front of a BBC Micro, loaded up Repton, and realzsed he’d discovered a makeshift nanny, but there are still loads of aspects to the different branches of this business that are entirely fresh to me. One of those aspects is the ever-growing focus on that beast of commercialism, the sales chart.

Ha! What a way to kick off a weekly feature: absolutely no posts in the six days following it. In my defense, there have been mitigating circumstances that I’m pleased to tell you about; in addition to being UK Correspondent over at EGC Games, I’m now a staff writer for TheGameReviews. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m over-the-moon excited about it As such, with the subsequent increased workload, I’ve been more than a little busy. Sadlym, the blog got sacrificed whilst I tried to adjust. Sorry about that, but normal service is resuming this week. On that note, full speed ahead to ShoNTell.

I’m excited to announce a new feature here at YHL!. It’s the weekly round-up you’ve all been waiting your sorry lives for, the publication an industry never knew it needed until now. It could only be the exceptionally wittily-named and indescribably thrilling ShoNTell. Huzzah!
When Graphics Do Matter: WipEout HD October 13, 2008

I’m a little worried about the subjectivity of this post; I haven’t played most WipEout games, including the two latest incarnations since I don’t own a PSP. I’ve always been something of a Gran Turismo nut. With my life obviously full of women, drugs and partying, I just didn’t have time for two PlayStation racing franchises. Thus, that all the tracks are borrowed from those two PSP games is a fact completely lost on me, although I’m aware it’s probably slightly disappointing for long-term fans. Maybe that I’m not a WipEout devotee, but I am impressed by WipEout HD, suggests how impressive this game actually is. Regardless of what it means to series fans, WipEout HD underlines two important points that should be near the top of a PS3 fanboy’s presentation for why the PS3 is teh best evar. Sit back, strap yourself in, and insert racing game cliché here.
Valkyria Chronicles: Demo Impressions October 10, 2008

Despite sampling various previews for Valkyria Chronicles, I’m still bewildered by the hybrid of gameplay themes found in its demo. To give you an idea of its peculiarity, the game could be validly classified as a turn-based strategy action RPG. Before I try to wade my way through its number of discordant characteristics, let me divulge a bit of background information; Valkyria Chronicles is a Sega title, exclusive to the PS3, one that’s already been out in Japan for six months and that comes out in Europe on October 31. It actually comes out in the US on my birthday, November 11, which is nice. Anyway, onto my impressions.

It’s time for a quick word on the game that’s spawned a thousand slash fiction stories and DeviantART pictures involving Splash Woman. Yep, it’s Mega Man 9 time, Capcom’s retro homage that recently came out on WiiWare, PSN and Xbox Live, thus making it the first to hit all three marketplaces – I wonder whether it will remain the only one to do that, but that’s a thought for another day.
