Discussing Braid: Can’t Stop Thinking About That Cloud December 26, 2008

All of a sudden it’s nearly 2009… where did all the freaking time go?
The new year looms over us, and it’s bringing with it the customary urge to decide which of this year’s games deserves the ultimate recognition of being in the 2008 YHL A-List. Since I’m human and have not played every single game made this year, I’m going to avoid pontificating, and try to recommend my favourite titles of the year rather than decorate them with absurd awards. Having said that, I’m glad I played Braid before the close of the year, because it’s deserving of both recommendation and decoration. It’s really that good, and it’s one of the most important video games of 2008.

No matter how hard they try, they can’t keep a decent weekly blog segment down. Despite the bitter cold, my sore fingers and old, weary eyes, ShoNTell is here after a week of absence to dissolve those Monday blues and replace them with pointless, anecdotal rambling.

Moira Brown is the owner of Craterside Supply, a bits and bobs store found in the small town of Fallout 3’s Megaton. To call her eccentric would be like saying Brian Blessed’s an extrovert. Moira is the very definition of bubbly, somehow rising above the misery found in the unrelenting wilderness that is post-apocalyptic Washington, DC. True, often she is excessively joyful, and sometimes inappropriately, but it’s hard to not have a soft spot for the one girl who’s always happy to see you in this desolation.

It wasn’t intentional, but I’ve now managed to play all of Q4’s big-name platformers (minus Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts). So, what’s the verdict? Underworld was good and Mirror’s Edge was even better.
What about Prince of Persia? Well, I hope you’re ready for a rant.

ShoNTell is just not gonna happen this week, I’m sad to say. I’m not really in a position to say anything definitive about the games I’ve been playing this week. I’ve got a couple of blog posts in mind for the next couple of days and a lot more work and gaming to catch up on, so I’d rather concentrate on all that than this post which would be pretty limited, methinks.

In yesterday’s post I discussed which of the four Q4 monsters I was going to purchase first. Today, in a brief follow-up, I’m going to reveal how I totally copped out and bought two of them.
